DESCRIPTION  :  ADVANCES IN RAPID ENERGY EXTRACTION FROM   THE SPACE-TIME  DOMAIN KNOWN  AS THE ZERO-POINT    VACUUM EVENTUALLY LED THE STARFLEET R&D FACILITY ON GROOMBRIDGE 273-2A TO TEST A PROTOTYPE CONTINUUM-TWIST DEVICE   WITH A  CALCULATED  POTENTIAL  OF   52.3   ISOTONS.    ZERO-POINT  ENERGY GENERATION BEGAN   WITH  A   NEGATIVE  ENERGY   BALANCE, REQUIRING  A  GREATER  INPUT OF  HIGH-TEMPERATURE  EPS  PLASMA  TO  INITIATE  THE  REACTION  THAN  WHAT  WAS    ACTUALLY PRODUCED BY THE  ZERO-POINT FIELD DEVICE.  THE BASIC MECHANISM,  FIRST OPERATED  EXPERIMENTALLY  IN 2236,  INVOLVED THE FORMATION OF AN 11-DIMENSIONAL SPACE-TIME MEMBRANE.

TWO JACKETING LAYERS, ONE OF SYNTHETIC NEUTRONIUM AND ANOTHER OF DILITHIUM, CONTROL  THE UPPER  AND LOWER EXTREMES OF THE ENERGY FIELD  CONTOURS.  ATTACHED  TO  THE  TAPER  OPENING  IS  A ZERO-POINT  INITIATOR CONSISTING OF AN EM RECTIFIER, WAVEGUIDE BUNDLE, SUBSPACE FIELD AMPLIFIER, AND CONTINUUM DISTORTION EMITTER.  THE EMITTER CREATES THE ACTUAL PINCH FIELD FROM A CONICAL SPIKE 10E-16 METERS ACROSS AT THE TIP. T HE ZERO-POINT INITIATOR IS POWERED  BY THE  DETONATION OF AN UPRATED PHOTON TORPEDO WARHEAD WITH A YIELD OF 21.8 ISOTONS , ACHIEVED  THROUGH INCREASED  MATTER-ANTIMATTER  SURFACE AREA CONTACT AND INTRODUCTION OF FLUORONETIC VAPOR.  THE M/A  REACTION  OCCURS  AT  FOUR  TIMES  THE  RATE  OF  A STANDARD WARHEAD.  THE DETONATION ENERGY  IS CHANNELED  THROUGH THE INITIATOR WITHIN 10E-7 SECONDS AND ENERGIZES THE EMITTER, WHIC H IMPARTS  A  TENSION  FORCE  UPON  THE VACUUM DOMAIN. AS THE VACUUM MEMBRANE EXPANDS, OVER A PERIOD OF 10E-4 SECONDS,  AN ENERGY  POTENTIAL  EQUIVALENT  TO AT  LEAST 50  ISOTONS IS CREATED. UPON IMPACT THERE IS A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT HAPPEN INSIDE THE WARHEAD.  FIRST, THE QUANTUM FILAMENTS ARE  RELEASED  INTO THE TRI-COBALT  CHAMBER  CREATING  A CASCADE REACTION, MIXING THE TRI-COBALT INTO  A HIGHLY VOLATILE MIXTURE.  A MILLISECOND LATER THE MAGNETIC CONTAINMENT  FIELD  AROUND  THE  ANTIMATTER  IS  RELEASED  AND  THE  ACTIVE
TRI-COBALT AND ANTIHYDROGEN MIX TOGETHER CREATING A  LETHAL  EXPLOSION. THE WEAPON IS CAPABLE OF  DISABLING STARSHIPS WITH ONE BLOW, AS STARFLEET UNFORTUNATELY FOUND OUT. INITIAL TESTING OF THE WEAPON TOOK PLACE JUST BEFORE  WOLF 359. DESIGNERS WERE PANICKED AND RUSHING THE PROJECT THROUGH  UNDER STARFLEET'S HASTY GAZE. USS KEEL,  AN  EXCELSIOR  CLASS SHIP WAS THE TEST VESSEL. THE FIRST FEW BARRAGES IN THE ASTEROID FIELD  IN  THE  TERRAN  SYSTEM  PROVED  TO  BE  MASSIVELY SUCCESSFUL.HOWEVER, IN THE FINAL DAY OF TESTING AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED.ONE OF THE DEVICES LODGED ITSELF IN ITS LAUNCHING TUBE AND THE WARHEAD WENT CRITICAL. THE RESULTANT EXPLOSION TORE THE SAUCER SECTION FROM THE KEEL AND MINUTES LATER THE WARP  CORE IN THE DRIVE  SECTION WENT CRITICAL. A TOTAL OF 40 LIVES WERE  LOST IN THE ACCIDENT AND ONLY WEEKS  LATER WOLF 359 OCCURRED.
     DESIGNERS  EVENTUALLY FIGURED OUT WHAT HAD GONE WRONG.  THE TRI-COBALT DEVICE WAS IN THEORY  MUCH HEAVIER THAN  A STANDARD PHOTON TORPEDO, AND ALTHOUGH  THE DESIGNERS  HAD TAKEN THIS INTO  ACCOUNT WHEN MODIFYING  THE  LAUNCHING TUBES ON THE KEEL, THEY HAD NOT BEEN  SUFFICIENT. AFTER THE  DISASTER  AT  WOLF 359,  STARFLEET  WAS  STILL  INTERESTED  IN USING THE TRI-COBALT DEVICE ON STARSHIPS. QUANTUM TORPEDOES WERE NOW IN DEVELOPMENT; HOWEVER, THE SHEER DESTRUCTIVE CAPABILITY OF THE WEAPON WAS SEEN AS A POSSIBLE DEFENSE AGAINST THE BORG, WHOSE VESSELS WERE VERY  LARGE TARGETS.  THE DESIGNERS  TOOK THE  LAUNCHING SYSTEM BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD  AND EVENTUALLY CAME  UP WITH A HIGHLY SAFE SYSTEM. FROM  THAT  POINT  ON  STARFLEET  ORDERED  ALL  NEW SHIPS  TO BE FITTED WITH THIS KIND OF LAUNCHING SYSTEM AND A STEADY RETROFITTING  OF  THE  DEFENSIVE  CAPABILITIES  OF THE  OTHER  SHIPS  IN  THE  FLEET. THE STANDARD  SHIP  COMPLIMENT  IS  FOR FOUR TRI-COBALT DEVICES. ANY MORE WOULD  POSE GREAT  DANGER TO THE SHIP.  IN ADDITION, SHIPS ON DIPLOMATIC OR INTERNAL MISSIONS HAVE THE WARHEADS REMOVED FOR SAFETY REASONS.

FLUX TORPEDOES

     A NEW ADVANCE IN TORPEDO DESIGN, THE HIGH YIELD FLUX TORPEDO UTILIZES A UNIQUE DISCREPANCY IN WARP BUBBLE THEOREM. AS THE TORPEDO APPROACHES THE TARGET, SPECIAL SENSORS  REGISTER THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TARGET AND ITSELF.  WHEN THE DISTANCE IS LESS THAN 500 METERS,  A  SMALL WARP GENERATOR ONBOARD THE TORPEDO IS ACTIVATED, CREATING A WARP BUBBLE AROUND THE TORPEDO OF 5 METERS RADIUS.  AS THE FIELD IS FORMED, THE ANTI-MATTER INTERLOCKS IN THE EXPLOSIVE SECTION OF THE CASING ARE RELEASED, ALLOWING THE  ANTI-MATTER  AND MATTER  REACTANTS TO MIX, DETONATING THE TORPEDO ON IMPACT. BEFORE  THE  TORPEDO  DETONATES HOWEVER,  THE WARP  GENERATOR  BEGINS TO ALTER THE WARP BUBBLE RADICALLY, CAUSING THE BUBBLE  TO  'FLUX'  -  EXPANDING  AND  CONTRACTING  RAPIDLY  BEFORE IMPACT.  AS  THE TORPEDO  DETONATES  FROM  THE  MIXED ANTI-MATTER AND MATTER REACTION, THE RESULTANT SHOCK WAVE OF FORCE IS AMPLIFIED BY RESONATING WITH THE FLUXED WARP BUBBLE  TO  CREATE  A MORE  EXPLOSIVE  FORCE  THAN THE  USUAL  PHOTON TORPEDOES.  THE FORCE GENERATED IS 0.06 X10 TIMES GREATER THAN THE STANDARD PHOTON TORPEDO DETONATION, BUT REQUIRES ONLY A SLIGHT MODIFICATION OF THE INTERNAL CASING.

     DESCRIPTION  :  THE DEVELOPMENT  OF THE  PULSE PHASER   ANNON APPLIES A NUMBER OF LESSONS LEARNED AT THE STARFLEET TOKYO  R&D  FACILITY,  WHERE LARGE,  NEARLY  FLAWLESS  EMITTER  CRYSTALS  HAD BEEN GROWN IN GROUND-BASED MICRO GRAVITY CHAMBERS.  THE NEW CRYSTALS,  COMBINED WITH  RAPID-DISCHARGE  EPS  CAPACITANCE  BANKS AND  HIGH-SPEED  BEAM-FOCUSING COILS,  ALLOWED  THE PHASER DISCHARGE  TO BE STORED  TEMPORARILY (UP TO 2.3 NANOSECONDS)  WITHIN THE  COILS AND  THEN RELEASED  AS A LAYERED PULSE.  THE EMERGING  PULSE IS STRUCTURED  SOMETHING LIKE AN ONION AND IS ABLE TO LAND A TARGET CONTACT THAT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO DISPERSE THAN A STANDARD PHASER BEAM.
